Repair café & Bike Kitchen
Never before in history have people owned as much as they do now, nor discarded as freely as they do today. It’s a shame, because objects hold memories, feelings, and stories. At the Repair Café, even a broken water pistol gets a second chance.
Likewise, Bike Kitchen offers a space where people can learn to repair their bicycles, equipping them with the skills and confidence to manage their own maintenance. In a world of throwaway culture, initiatives like these are empowering people to reconnect with their belongings, whether it’s fixing a bike or restoring a cherished household item.
I captured these images at the Repair Café in Amsterdam Sloterdijk and the Bike Kitchen at the University of Amsterdam to accompany articles by Emy Demkes for De Correspondent.
