The World is a Construction Kit
In the Weekender Trailer Solo Show during the Unseen Photo Fair in Amsterdam, Annegien van Doorn establishes relationships between ordinary, everyday and banal objects. The objects she uses move beyond their day-to-day function and take on a new form. Small events are transformed into the monumental and the familiar becomes something extraordinary. Her work shows everyday life from a different perspective. You could even say that her work shows us the world in a more playful way. Playing is the gateway to creativity. One of the most significant features of play is that it is fun. Like her work, play is not the ordinary or real life. It is a temporary sphere or activity with its own scope. Within this scope you have to use your imagination and that’s exactly what she challenges the audience to do.
